Quote of the day:
"Have we sent the 'Don't shoot, we're pathetic' transmission yet?"
-Farscape(?)
Feeling good today. :) It's become fall, and I have fun things going on this week (seeing "Thriller" tomorrow with Isaura, date on Thursday, and Snow Patrol concert on Saturday!). I'm wearing a fun hat, I enjoy my work, and I just sent off a letter to the City Attorney's Office asking for an update (it's been a few months).
( Accomplishments )
Also, I just renewed my LJ account, including extra icons, and I realized that I have TONS of icon space that I'm not using. I decided if I'm paying for it, I should be using it, right? So now I feel like hunting for icons. :P I'm into a few new TV shows that need representation, and there's some gorgeous art out there that I could icon-ize, and some seasonal ones, and I'd like some airy/earthy, peaceful-types, too. People, where do you go to find icons? What are your favorite icon communities?
I also want to make a custom mood-theme. I was working on an Avatar theme once upon a time, but I'm thinking now that maybe I should work at making a Muse mood-theme. Hmmmm....... ^_^

I went to the Fall Out Boy concert last night. It was cool. The venue (Saltair) was pretty cool, too. I hadn't been there before. (It was closer than I expected, only about 10 miles past the airport. So I left work way earlier than I needed to. Oh well.)
( Concert Report )
Anyway, I had a fun time, it was worth the money, and today I'm hurting. (But it's post-rock-concert-hurting, which is almost as cool as post-workout-hurting. So it's okay.)
OH!! And David Archuleta was there, watching the show from the VIP balcony (across the hall from us). Kristina got a picture of him on her camera. I got a picture with my phone, but we weren't close enough for you to tell it's him. (I've just discovered that I can send stuff from my phone to my email, so I'll post some pics I took at the show. ^_^)

So for some reason we were talking about Yanni at the office just now, and somebody mentioned hearing about a Yanni concert.. I hit the internet running.
Yanni has been one of the top... I dunno, 5? concerts-I-want-to-go-to-sometime-in-my-l ife for the last, oh, 15 years..
June 17th, Salt Lake City, Energy Solutions Arena. Tickets went on sale last Friday, and are going for $35, $55, and $75.
I'm totally there. (Probably at the $35 range.) I haven't gotten a ticket yet, though, cuz I'm debating whether to get two and find a date, or if I should poll my friends to see if anybody else is interested. But I think I can wait a few days before buying tickets. It's not til June, after all.
(And speaking of concerts, I'm going to see Fall Out Boy on April 13th - WOOHOO!! - and then "Wicked" in May! ^________^)

ALSO! My brother, along with the rest of the ballroom dancers, is sleeping out for good tickets for the BYU Ballroom Dance in Concert and is taking orders. Who's interested?
Shows are Friday and Saturday, April 10-11 at 7:30pm, for $12 each, and a matinee on the 11th at 2:00pm, for $10.
I've got to give him a count by Monday, so let me know ASAP.

I hate busy weekends, particularly after a busy week. This one was really hard. But almost everything got done, so at least there's that. Here's hoping this week isn't as busy.
I made a boat-load of sushi for a ward activity on Saturday, and had leftover filler ingredients, so I made more yesterday. I went through three batches of rice to use them up. ^^;; I think it amounted to about eight or nine rolls of nine pieces each. It was good, though. And when I went to Chao's to get nori, I also picked up some furikake to use for making onigiri - yay! I've been wanting onigiri for a long time. (But I wore myself out making sushi, so it might be a while..)
I also went to the Vocal Point concert on Saturday, which was fun. I think they only had one or two new songs from last semester, which was sad, but it was still a good show. And when I brought a plate of sushi over to my brother last night, I got to talk to his roommate (who's in Vocal Point) about the show, too. :)
I did manage to get some work done on Muse, thank heavens. It's always frustrating when you feel the creative bug and don't have the freedom to indulge it. But I have a page 1! (I've had a sketch for page 0 for a while, but it needs major redrawing.) Page 1 is only one panel, though, and it's drawn out. Page 2 is next, and I'll hopefully work on that today. When I've got a few pages drawn, I'll scan them in and try inking them digitally - that'll help with the smoothness of line and the cleanup time (which always takes a while), and I can also work bigger than my actual drawing and then reduce it down for "print" to get cleaner images. ^_^ It might look less organic than hand-inking, but it may work better in the long run. We'll see.
For page 2, I need to decide what Argus looks like, because he's in it. ^^;; All these minor-ish characters keep demanding their designs before the more major characters, pfffft.. Ah well. I also need to get working on writing chapter 2 so that I have plenty of direction before I get there.

Ooh, next Thursday there's a sweet concert at the E Center -
Dashboard Confessional
with Panic at the Disco and Plain White T's!
Show's at 7. Tickets are $27, $33, and $37.
Who's in?
PS~ I finished penciling the "sample page" of Muse last night, and scanned it. I'm going to try inking digitally and see how I like it - definitely it will save me clean-up time (which is a significant chunk of page prep), and give me cleaner lines.. Then I can color it and send in my application to ComicGenesis!!!!

BTW..
pudges and
phoenix_melody - if you've changed your minds about getting Ballroom tickets, matinee on Saturday the 12th, let me know ASAP so I can tell my brother. I haven't gotten them from him yet, but I will next time I see him. They're $10 each.
In other news... I haven't been using my desktop lately for anything but listening to music, because the monitor's getting so bad (and it doesn't want to play WoW.. but that's a different story). I'm finally looking into replacing it, but I thought I'd ask you people if you had recommendations.
It seems really difficult to find CRTs anywhere, but based on the comparisons I've read tonight, it looks like CRTs are still preferable over LCDs for graphic output - color capability and resolution handling is still better than with LCDs. And they're cheaper. The one I've got now is a 16", I think, but it came from an eMachine, which is not particularly... cutting edge..
If I went with a CRT, it seems Sony or ViewSonic would be the way to go. (This one seems pretty nice....) Thoughts? Anyone care to defend the side of the LCD? (I use LCD monitors at work, and it would be really nice to have more space on my little desk at home, but I don't know..)

So I was on Facebook for a little while this morning, and noticed a bunch of photos that were posted of my brother from DanceSport this weekend. And then he told me that his partner wrote an article about the competition for the Deseret News - you can read it here (be sure to check out the photos on the right!!).
And speaking of my brother and dancing.. The Ballroom Dance Concert is coming up on April 11th and 12th, and he's got tickets (really good seats - the teams camp out to get them) and needs to know ASAP who wants them. They're $12 for Friday or Saturday night, and $10 for Saturday matinee. (I believe
cieloan is attending the matinee, so if y'all want to go together, we could do that!) Just let me know as soon as possible and I'll get the tickets from him.
(PS~ Video Games Live is next weekend - Friday and Saturday the 28th and 29th. WHEN ARE WE GOING, and HOW MANY do I need to get???) Saturday they still have $30 and $40 tickets, but Friday night the cheapest ones are $48. Let me know!!!!!!!

Last night I dreamed of Locke Lamora and New York. Some of it was Locke Lamora in New York. Yikes. (Also, I think Spiderman may have been there. Huh.)
So this entry is really about Video Games Live. It's going to be in SLC March 28-29, 8PM, at Abravanel Hall. Cheapest tickets are $30, but there are also $40, $48, and $82 tickets (which I am definitely not paying for), depending on the seats. Also, you can only buy 6 tickets together at once, so keep that in mind.
Takers? It's way cool. I'm a little nervous about driving around SLC, but I've done it before, and I could do it again if I need to. Also, they have a costume contest before the show, so if you have a video game costume, it might be cool to wear it. ;) I'm debating. (Though admittedly, this was the event that spurred me to work hard on my Bastila costume last year, even though it didn't get done in time. Maybe I should find myself some lightsabers and do it this year..)
